Low Emission Energy Future movie

Resource Type Media

Queensland Resources Council (QRC) in consultation with leading researchers and industry has developed this short educational movie to provide an overview of a ‘low emission future’.

The movie sets out a pathway to low-emission energy production incorporating renewable and carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies, and offers a valuable tool for understanding CCS technologies under trial or development including oxy-fuel firing, post combustion capture and coal gasification.

QRC acknowledges the assistance provided by many organisations in the development of this product including CSIRO, CO2CRC, ACARP, NewGenCoal, Arrow Energy, Santos, CS Energy, Hydrogen Energy International Ltd, Blackwater International Coal Centre, and in particular University of Queensland’s Professor Kelly Thambimuthu.

Educational value statement

  • Reviews a variety of low emission technologies from the point of view of the minerals and energy sector.
  • Includes numerous animated sequences showing industrial processes.
  • The video can be downloaded as a MPG file.

Key learning objectives

  • Students describe how energy from a variety of sources can be used to generate electricity.
  • Students compare renewable and non-renewable energy resources in terms of greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Students describe some technologies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from combustion of fossil fuels.
  • Students identify the role that increased energy efficiency can play in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
